In the face of all this, some believers in religion came to question their most basic beliefs, while others gave up belief altogether. Was God’s creation going wrong? A shred of hope was offered when scientists suggested that, if some stars were dying, it might also be true that others were still being created, and the theory of Continuous Creation was born.

All these fears were based on an incorrect and limited knowledge of the universe and the wonderful workings of the Power behind it. The Christian Church in particular wished to preserve belief in what was stated in the Bible. If the scientists were correct, it would mean that not only was God’s work not finished in six days, as is stated in the Book of Genesis, but that it is nowhere near being completed, even now. And if the Church was wrong about this, how many other things was it wrong about?

If you began to think about it, where exactly in the universe was God supposed to be? There was no longer any locus for Him. Since there was no fixed perimeter and the space endless, one could no longer imagine the created universe as a perfect sphere having everything contained within it, cradled in God’s almighty Hands. And all of a sudden it became fashionable not to believe in God at all. Many men of science found the whole idea of religion to be completely nonsense, its arguments and dogmas irrelevant and simplistic, and they became atheists.

The questions of how the universe began, or how it was built or designed and what its future was, became the searching ground of atheists as well as believers, scientists confidently expecting that they would find a secular answer to these questions which did away with the ‘superstitious hypothesis’ that there was a Creator-God.

All these and many other questions about this or other theories concerning the origin of the universe, such as the Steady-State theory, remain completely unanswered. Obviously, the moment one accepts the notion that the universe actually did have a beginning in time, one must inevitably return to the vexing question of the creation and the nature of the Creator.

When you’re stressed out, your body is in a constant flood of cortisol, the stress hormone secreted by the adrenal glands. This causes a steady breakdown of the body systems leading to premature aging, excess belly fat, degeneration and eventually disease.

Rest may take the form of meditation, a twenty minute, a hot relaxing bubble bath with Epsom salts and lavender, restorative yoga or reading something spiritual or uplifting. Look at your relationships, look at your bills, look at your daily schedule and commit yourself to eliminating anything that is not improving the quality of your life. Manage your “to-do” list, set boundaries, volunteering, pets, listening to classical music, spend time in nature or at the ocean are other stress busters.

Breathe: Deep breathing is the source of all energy in your body. It releases endorphins that create feelings of happiness. Deep breathing revitalizes and energizes every cell in your body. Without sufficient oxygen, cells begin to die and energy is not sufficiently produced. Spend five minutes of solitude practicing deep, full breathing into your belly every day. An example would be to inhale 4 counts, hold 4 counts, exhale 8 counts and hold 4 counts. You will notice a huge difference in your energy, mood and clarity.

Spiritual connection: Your intention to connect on a soul level is vital for balance and harmony. The manner in which you may choose your spiritual connection may include any of the following: surrounding yourself with like-minded spiritual friends, prayer, reading something spiritual, meditation and/or solitude in nature.

A healthy functioning digestive system: You could be eating the best food on the planet, yet if your digestive system isn’t working properly, you won’t absorb, assimilate, metabolize and eliminate food molecules correctly. Many health conditions and disease stem from a malfunctioning digestive system. Seventy percent of your immune system is located in your digestive tract.

Tips to improve your digestion:

1. Drink two glasses of water with the juice of a lemon 15 minutes before each meal. Drinking during mealtime dilutes hydrochloric acid concentrations in the stomach and weakens digestion.

2. Chew your food until it is liquefied.

3. Consider digestive enzymes and HCl.

4. Never eat while stressed! Don’t watch the news, have stressful conversations, listen to chaotic music, eat in a hurry or read stressful information while eating.

Have goals: Set realistic and achievable short, mid-range and long-term goals. Write them down. Doing so ensures you have made a major commitment toward achieving them and are far more likely to follow your plan.

Keep a positive outlook. This is much more important than you can imagine. Chronic stress accelerates aging and encourages disease. People who feel happier have on average, lower levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, which is linked with hypertension and type II diabetes.

Negative emotional and mental overload taxes your health and creates imbalances and disease. Changing your thinking can change your brain’s neurochemistry. A positive attitude can keep you healthy, happy and alive well into old age. Staying in a state of gratitude is another WINNING FORMULA against the potentially deadly effects of stress. Every day make a list of 10 things that you are grateful for. This will shift your energy immediately. You’ll feel better and less stressed. Focus on positive outcomes and desired actions. Positive emotional states are linked to prolonged life expectancy.

5 Pharmacologic Options for Keeping Arthritis Non-Surgical

Musculoskeletal arthritis affects millions of Americans each year. It represents an annoying source of pain, and finding a cure for arthritis would be the Holy Grail of medicine. Unfortunately, we don’t have a silver bullet right now, but we do have some treatments that can be very effective in allowing patients to live and function without incapacitating pain from the arthritis.

One of the common things that patients experience with arthritis is similar to a pebble in one’s shoe. The pain comes on and typically just does not go away. It’s almost like a gnat at a family barbecue, that comes around for a bit and is extremely annoying, then leaves for a little bit, then comes back. All in all it makes for extremely irritating situation.

Treatment for patients with arthritis can be very challenging. However, whether the arthritis is in the hip knee, shoulder, ankle, and, etc., most of the pharmacologic treatments can be similarly effective.

Let’s discuss 5 of the most effective pharmacologic ways of treating arthritis while avoiding surgery at the same time.

Pharmacological therapy – The 1st method treatment involves acetaminophen (Tylenol), which is a great medication that can help with pain relief. It should not be taken over 4 grams per day, and maybe even less if the patient has a liver problem to begin with. However it is a very cost-effective medication and can alleviate pain on a regular basis for most individuals.

NSAIDS – Another great medication that is typically over-the-counter involves nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory’s. These are available in formulations such as ibuprofen, along with naproxen, among others. There are some NSAIDS that they’re still necessary to obtain a prescription, and actually to get higher doses of ones like ibuprofen you will need to obtain a prescription from your doctor. For instance, most of the ibuprofen that comes over-the-counter is in 200 mg per pill, whereas, a prescription can be upwards of 800 mg per pill. Typically the dough should not exceed over 2400 mg per day broken up into 3 doses.

Neuromodulating medications – There are additional neuromodulating medications that are coming into play now which include Neurontin, Lyrica, and other ones such as duloxetine. These are all prescription medications that can have some modulatory effects on the nerves that are bringing the pain sensation to the area of arthritis. In conjunction with other medications, they may help substantially. They can also be sedating, so patients need to be careful to make sure that they don’t take them for the 1st time and then go operate heavy machinery.

Opioids – Additional medications that can be used for arthritis include narcotic and non-narcotic opioid medications. These should not be taken on a consistently chronic basis. They should be more for acute inflammatory exacerbations and for short-term therapy. Otherwise, narcotic side effects can be substantial including but not limited to depression, constipation, tolerance, and addiction. This in turn will make the problem of arthritis even worse, because now the patient has a problem with being addicted to a controlled substance. So this should only be used in the acute situation.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate – The medications including glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate have very little risk, unfortunately they only have minor clinical relevance. They’re available in health food stores or over-the-counter, so easy to obtain. They can help promote the growth of a slight amount of cartilage and also prevent the loss of some existing cartilage, hence some amount of pain relief be achieved. Therefore they can be of some value, although expectations need to be kept very low for these medications.

Any attempt to avoid surgery for arthritis, pharmacologic options are abundant, patients generally need to be astute to make sure that they are taking them according to the manufacturers recommendations and they’re not being abused.

Tips To Keep In Mind When Using An ATV On the Farm

The ATV has made many farm jobs a bit easier and more areas of large operations accessible any time of the year. All in all, the ATV has basically become the modern day horse when it comes to farming and ranch applications. Unfortunately, along with that increase in use has come an increase in related injuries and deaths. The majority of those incidents involve teens under the age of 16. Here are three things to keep in mind that may help you prevent an ATV accident on your farm.

Roll-overs. ”An ATV can do many of the tasks formerly assigned to the small farm tractor. Just as safe tractor operation is influenced by speed, topography and load size, so is the operation of an ATV,” writes Dennis Murphy, a professor at Penn State University. ”ATV overturns on steep or uneven terrain can happen quickly. High speed, uneven ground, ditches or large rocks increase the chance of the ATV being rolled or flipped during operation.” Slow down and pick your path carefully. If you wouldn’t drive a tractor over it, do not tackle it with your ATV. The other factor to consider is front versus rear braking. In a panic situation on an uphill path, too many novice – and even experienced – riders hit the rear brake. If the incline is steep enough, this can lead to a backwards roll-over. This is one of the most dangerous accidents on an all terrain vehicle.

Loading and Braking. A heavy load can push an ATV down a slope, increasing the chances of a jack-knife or you losing control. Large loads on a trailer can push the limits of an ATVs ability to brake. Pull behind mowers can do the same. Another issue is when a farmer tries to hitch somewhere other than the manufacturer’s hitch.

Unseen Obstacles. One common use for an ATV is to herd livestock to the barn or milkhouse. This usually results in high speed operation of the ATV over uneven ground. All it takes is a dip in the field to flip an ATV over its front wheels, injuring or killing the rider. Be sure you know the terrain inside and out before increasing your speed.

The best way to avoid an ATV accident, especially for riders under 16, is to take a safety course. Additionally, it may be inconvenient to wear a helmet while you are working on the farm; inconvenient until that helmet saves your life one day.
